DANGEROUS TO MAN

The Tiger Snake is found around swampy and low-lying areas. It is a distinctive snake that has a black upper surface and yellow to orange underbelly, with yellow stripes coming up the sides.

The young resemble the adults in appearance, are about 20cm when hatched and may grow to over 1m in length.

These snakes are very stubborn and will stand their ground. When angry or upset, they flatten their neck like a cobra.

Tiger snakes tolerate the cold quite well and do not hibernate like most other species. Extreme care should be taken when wandering around likely habitats, especially on warm summer nights
