RULES FOR PREVENTION OF SNAKE BITES

1. If a snake is sighted, DO NOT PANIC.
2. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO KILL, CAPTURE OR CORNER A SNAKE.
3. DO NOT INJURE A SNAKE. Remember an injured animal is a defensive, angry animal.
4. DO NOT TORMENT OR POKE AT A SNAKE.
5. If a snake is sighted, LEAVE IT ALONE. If it is not frightened it will not harm you.

BUSHWALKING

1. Always go in pairs.
2. Stay on proper tracks and firebreaks.
3. Wear closed in shoes, boots, long trousers and long-sleeved shirts.
4. Make a certain amount of noise, no tip-toeing or whispering.
5. DO NOT POKE YOUR HANDS INTO HOLES, HOLLOW LOGS OR LONG GRASS.
6. ALWAYS carry an appropriate bandage – broad elasticated is preferred (crepe bandage).
7. If a snake is sighted, DO NOT attempt to kill, chase, torment or capture it.
8. When entering an unfamiliar area never forget the possibility of snakes being there. Always watch where you are walking or you may unintentionally tread on a snake; this may result in a bite.
