Albino Bobtail The Bobtail skink has a triangular-shaped head, a wide greyish-blue tongue, a short blunt tail and short limbs. It is generally yellowish-brown to black above, with 5-7 pale coloured bands. However, sometimes albinism is due to one of several gene mutations that affect the production of normal pigmentation. Most organisms with albinism appear white or very pale; melanin (or more accurately, melanins — there are multiple types) is responsible for brown, black, gray, and some yellow colorations. Many animals with albinism, however, lack their protective camouflage and are unable to conceal themselves from their predators or prey; the survival rate of animals with albinism in the wild is usually quite low. |
