Stimson’s Python – Antaresia stimsoni A constrictor of Australia’s desert regions, the Stimson’s is probably the smallest python in the world. The scales are smooth, light brown to yellowish-brown above with a contrasting pattern of dark brown blotches. The sides are paler with a white or cream belly. It shelters by day under rocks, in soil cracks, in cavities in termite mounds and in abandoned burrows. Mating occurs from April to July and females lay a clutch of 6-19 eggs from August to November. The hatchlings are about 24cm growing to 1m in length. It is inoffensive and rarely attempts to bite if handled, preferring to curl itself into a ball, hiding its head in the coils of its body. |
